Broadly speaking, my research interests include the impact of racial and socioeconomic determinants of health on disparities in oncologic outcomes. A particular interest of mine is endometrial cancer from a genomic standpoint and how that may translate into biologic differences that impact morbidity and mortality.

I am a clinician scientist with a research focus on improving health systems for HIV and chronic diseases including cardiovascular disease in resource-limited settings. I lead projects on differentiated models of care for HIV as well as clinical epidemiology studies on hypertension and cardiovascular disease in Haiti.

Jamila Michener studies poverty racial inequality and public policy with an emphasis on the politics of Medicaid. She is author of a book entitled: Fragmented Democracy: Medicaid Federalism and Unequal Politics (Cambridge University Press). Much of her work explores the role of public policy in developing (or undermining) the collective political capacity necessary to achieve health equity.
