Center Funding Opportunities & Awarded Grants

The Center annually provides funding opportunities that sponsor:

  • Pilot Research projects ($50,000) that aim to generate pilot data for future extramurally funded research on health equity, or prose scholarly work that advances thinking and/or practices on health equity; with pathways to broader impacts.
  • Community Partnership Building projects ($5,000) that aim to establish or strengthen collaborative partnerships that will enable meaningful involvement of community stakeholders in health equity research.

The vision of the Cornell Center for Health Equity is to nurture durable academic-community partnerships to inform our research agenda, integrate community perspectives into our research, and develop an infrastructure to disseminate and implement the results of our work with the overarching goal of achieving health equity locally, regionally, and nationally.

Request for Pilot Project Proposals

The Cornell Center for Health Equity is pleased to request applications for one-year grant support for research or scholarship. The primary goal of this opportunity is to support impactful projects ranging from $15,000 to $50,000. Applicants may propose research projects to generate pilot data for future extramurally funded research on health equity, or they may propose scholarly work that advances thinking and/or practices on health equity. In both cases, applications should describe pathways to broader impacts. Unlike previous calls for proposals under this grant mechanism, we are not requiring projects to involve investigators from both the Ithaca and New York City campuses (though collaboration is welcome and encouraged).

We strongly encourage all applicants to center perspectives from historically marginalized and oppressed populations. This can be accomplished through partnerships with community organizations that serve these populations, data collection methods and procedures that center these voices, or other strategies. The proposed research or scholarship should be novel, innovative, and impactful with the goal of advancing our Center’s vision and mission.

The center will host a virtual town hall meeting to brief applicants about the application process and address any questions:

Request for Community Partnership Building Proposals

The Cornell Center for Health Equity is pleased to request applications for 12-month community partnership building grants. These grants serve to support project teams in establishing or strengthening collaborative partnerships that will enable meaningful involvement of community stakeholders in health equity research. Meaningful involvement may include activities such as identifying unanswered research questions that are of importance to marginalized and minoritized community members; ensuring equitable selection of participants; or sharing research findings with study participants and the community-at-large.

The purpose of this funding opportunity is to form teams comprised of scientists, scholars, and community partners with the overall goal of enhancing collaboration. It seeks to enhance capacity to develop innovative research partnerships broadly related to health equity. This year, we are particularly interested in proposals that look at health equity from a public health perspective, including research related to systems and process improvements, and proposals that explore the role of racial justice in achieving health equity. Any topic that seeks to understand the sources of health disparities and how to overcome them is appropriate.

Preference will be given to applicants who plan to submit a research proposal, for extramural or intramural funding, before the end of the grant period.

The center will host a virtual town hall meeting to brief applicants about the application process and address any questions:
