What I would like to offer as a collaborator…

What I am looking for from a collaborator…

I am the Swanson Endowed Director of Shelter Medicine at the veterinary college. Our Maddie’s Shelter Medicine Program at Cornell, founded in 2005, is one of only four comprehensive shelter medicine training programs in the world. The program has trained 3 residents and 20 shelter medicine specialty interns since 2008, as well as thousands of veterinarians and veterinary students in both classroom and clinical settings. We are also very engaged in community collaborations. At the core is the clinical training program covering population and individual companion animal clinical care and welfare, accompanied by a robust shelter consultation service providing organizational, regional, and national recommendations for sheltering and animal welfare organizations. My work includes expertise and collaborations involving health inequities and access to veterinary care for under-served populations, infectious disease management, veterinary fieldwork and community outreach, disaster response, and companion animal welfare. I am particularly interested in collaborating around connections between inequities in human healthcare and veterinary medicine access and delivery systems, as well as the role of pets in family units.
