What I would like to offer as a collaborator…

My research has focused on the role of community institutions in the delivery of social and health services particularly to under-served communities such as immigrant communities and communities of color. I am also interested in how key community-based institutions in immigrant and minority communities shape community values and norms particularly in relation to controversial or sensitive topics like HIV. I recently led a NIH-funded study examining HIV and other health risks for Chinese and Korean immigrant women working in the numerous sexually oriented massage parlors found in New York City and Los Angeles County. Prior to my academic/research career I helped to found the Asian & Pacific Islander Coalition on HIV/AIDS (now a Federally Qualified Health Center known as the APICHA Community Health Center) where I served as Deputy Executive Director.

What I am looking for from a collaborator…

I have been working in and conducting research about immigrant communities and communities of color for more than 25 years. My combined experience as an academic public health researcher urban policy and planning professor and previously as the deputy executive director of an immigrant health organization provides a unique perspective on questions of health care access and health promotion in under-served populations. Through membership in the Cornell Center for Health Equity I hope to develop networks with researchers conducting similar research and develop research partnerships. I am also looking forward to learning about new developments in this area.
