What I would like to offer as a collaborator…

I conduct research on the cardio-renal interaction using animal models in the Schaffer-Nishimura Lab at Cornell. In the past year, I have designed a stabilization setup using 3D printing to image the mouse kidney in vivo. I am very interested in using technology and engineering approach to improve our understanding of human health and the efficiency of healthcare delivery.

As a member of the Cornell Urban Semester/Practicing Medicine Program, I attended seminars by Dr. Safford, Dr. Morales, Dr. Fein and Dr. Pelzman on the social determinants of health. I was fascinated by the social factors that affect one’s health outcome and inspired to learn more about the importance of social competence in healthcare. I hope to continue to learn from the mentors at CCHEq and help contribute to the center’s research projects.

What I am looking for from a collaborator…

My experiences volunteering at hospitals in Shanghai, China, Lima, Peru and the United States have helped me understand how different healthcare systems adjust to the unique needs of their patient populations. When shadowing in flushing, NY, a neighborhood with many Asian American residents, I became more aware of the importance to understand patients’ cultural and social backgrounds to deliver the most effective care. As a member, I hope to conduct research on comparative healthcare systems and/or health disparities under the guidance of CCHEq mentors. I would also like to help connect my peers at Cornell who are passionate about health equity and organize events on campus that would raise awareness of the social determinates of health.
