The Weill Cornell Medicine Diversity Center of Excellence, part of the Cornell Center for Health Equity, works to enhance diversity within the physician workforce as a strategy to combat health disparities. Our mission includes increasing representation through a five-pronged strategy that includes:

  • Expanding middle school, high school, and undergraduate pipeline programs
  • Enhancing support for medical students from underrepresented minority (URM) groups by creating an environment that facilitates top performance in culturally competent clinical care and community-partnered research
  • Enhancing support for residents and fellows to engage more URMs to stay in academics;
  • Expanding faculty development programs to support URM faculty
  • Generating knowledge through our innovative programs to share our insights with other academic centers directly and through peer-reviewed literature to benefit URM and disadvantaged community members through a novel patient education platform

The Diversity Center of Excellence was established in 2018 with a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health of Human Services.
