What I would like to offer as a collaborator…

As a health disparities researcher I conduct interventions that address socioeconomic and environmental influences on food choices while drawing upon my expertise in mixed methods and community-based research. More specifically I design innovative and culturally relevant interventions that aim to improve dietary behaviors among impoverished minority youth that reside in urban communities. Thus my research lies at the intersection of poverty race/ethnicity nutrition and health (e.g. obesity and type 2 diabetes). Participating in the Center allows me to engage with academic and community partners who are also committed to health equity.

What I am looking for from a collaborator…

I am a registered dietitian formally trained as a nutritional scientist and I have extensive training in the area of diet assessment. My area of expertise can be used to assist others who are interested in 1) collecting diet data (e.g. 24 hour recalls) and 2) designing dietary interventions. From the membership I am interested in identifying potential academic and community partners who are interested in community-based projects that aim to improve dietary behaviors of youth. I am also interested in receiving mentorship as I apply for federal funding.
