Health Equity/Research Interest

I study the ways in which biased ML-based technologies can result in disparate impact on different patient populations — for example, (a) the ways in which speech-to-text technologies underperform for individuals with speech impediments, (b) methods to improve clinical trial / A/B experiment monitoring with heterogeneous patient populations, and (c) the ways in which online ad bidding algorithms make it harder for Spanish-speaking individuals to apply for SNAP.

Expertise/Goals

I hope to continue working on algorithmic fairness in the public health space, particularly with medical experts.
