What I would like to offer as a collaborator…
I have been a basic scientist all my life up until this point, working in laboratory based research in Biophysics and Cell Biology. Currently, I am one of the co-Directors of Microscopy and Image Analysis Core Facility at Weill Cornell Medicine.
What I am looking for from a collaborator…
I have a great personal interest and passion about health disparities, but no real background in research in this field. I am not sure if there’s a pathway for me to be able to engage in this work. I am a very good writer. In fact, for several years, I co-taught a scientific writing course (with Dr. John Wagner) for CTSC, WCM. I am also good at analyzing and visualizing large amounts of data and making sense of patterns that emerge (from all the years of doing lab research and image analysis). I am not sure if, and to what extent, this skill set can be leveraged for disparities research. I am even open to volunteering some of my time over and above my responsibilities of running the Core Facility, in order to find an entry into this field that I feel passionately about. (This may or may not be relevant, but I am an ordained interfaith/interspiritual minister and a spiritual counselor outside of my work at WCM. I also have a personal website and blogs that I write as part of this work.)
