What I would like to offer as a collaborator…

Throughout my life I have slowly developed interest between the intersection of health and law. Two classes that I found both inspiring and equally upsetting were Population Health and the Sociology of Medicine. In Population Health, a representative from the Cleveland Clinic came to speak to us about new task forces centered around digital technology, with a goal of increasing health equity and accessibility. I had never realized that the population health, the health of an individual, and the structure of hospitals were so deeply woven with the structure of policy and government. As I learned about these topics of structural and social health determinants, I found myself more and more interested in the management and policy side of the discussion, as it pertained to both legislative process and to health care facilities like hospitals. It is clear that in order to help humanity for the betterment, one would have to spark systemic change in the foundations and interpretations of our current law and and healthcare institutions. Hence, my interest in joining the Center for Health Equity, and researching health equity in general, specifically from a legal or policy perspective.

What I am looking for from a collaborator…

My various positions of leadership and academic work has always been centered around the core idea and desire I’ve had of creating a better future for future generations. But through the reflection of my life, it’s entailments, and my curiosity towards others did I realize that my passion does not simply lie in the idea of positive change, but in the systemic changes required to ensure individual and community well-being and justice. Population health is an interdisciplinary subject that is a cause and effect of everything that encompasses our lives. I aspire to receive my JD and MPH, for holding both degrees would put me in the necessary position required to fight and foster change for persons, groups, or communities that desire inclusive human health rights and justice, which ultimately equates to health equity and health law within healthcare facilities and our nation as a whole.

In terms of this membership, I hope to seek guidance, networking or career opportunities, possible events or collaborations I could participate (or just attend) in, and ultimately a community of like minded people who want to better the world.
