Health Equity/Research Interest
The disparities in health and healthcare are becoming more extreme. The misconception that the quality and access to healthcare contributes most to our overall wellbeing enables these health inequalities to perpetuate. The Center for Health Equity functions as an agent of change. It transforms this old notion of medicine as the only solution to this new idea that our health is greatly influenced by elements outside of the hospital. The Center enables research to be conducted that deepens the understanding of how elements like income influence our health. The ability of this type of research to reshape what healthcare is, is something that I am very interested in and would love to be a part of.
Expertise/Goals
As an undergraduate student minoring in inequalities on the health equity tract, I was able to begin learning about the multitude of factors that influence health outside of medicine and science. As a member of the Center, I hope to deepen my understanding of health equity beyond the scope of just taking classes by collaborating with researchers and other members.
