What I would like to offer as a collaborator…

In my clinical practice, I would like to improve equity in colorectal care and make my practice a place where every patient regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation feels respected, comfortable, and receives the same high level of care. I aim to establish an ethical practice with diverse employees and patients, recognizing and reforming deep seated societal inequalities and social biases.
This program would allow me to expand on those goals to reach a broader audience, providing me with the tools to develop a formal curriculum to encourage trainees to recognize and be bothered by healthcare disparities, and train them to provide culturally competent patient care.

What I am looking for from a collaborator…

As an Associate Program Director of the General Surgery Residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital and the General Surgery Sub-Internship Course Director at Weill Cornell Medical School, I share the responsibility and opportunity to facilitate surgical training at both the undergraduate and graduate levels with a specific focus on the transition from medical school to residency and residency recruitment and retention efforts. The Department of Surgery recognizes that representation and cultural sensitivity matter and that the lack of diversity is a priority area for improvement. It is our hope that through my participation in this program, the Department of Surgery and the General Surgery Residency will learn from and be able to implement the best practices to achieve diverse recruitment, training, and retention of our future colleagues to achieve greater diversity in surgery.
