Health Equity/Research Interest
Akachukwu is an undergraduate researcher at Schaffer and Nishimura lab where she investigates neural activity in the gastrointestinal tract. She is currently studying irritable bowel syndrome and visceral pain using live mice model. As an aspiring physician, Akachukwu is interested in researching the interplay of nutrition and minority health. She would love to investigate how one’s socioeconomic status affects their diet and ultimately their likelihood of developing a chronic illness.
Expertise/Goals
I am currently pursuing a minor in inequality Studies- Health Equity where I have learned how public policy has affected minority populations access to quality healthcare. I also have a plethora of experience planning and executing global health projects and I would love to share my knowledge with other members. As a member of the center I would love to network with like minded people to advance health equity for the most vulnerable populations.
