Health Equity/Research Interest

My research focuses on understanding how clinicians’ non-English language proficiency affects the quality of care derived to patients with limited English proficiency (LEP). Ultimately I plan to use the results of my research to establish standards for the appropriate use of non-fluent non-English language skills by clinicians and to identify process and outcomes measures that capture the quality of cancer care being delivered to LEP patients.

Expertise/Goals

My experience in language barriers research has the potential in combination with networking and collaboration with other professionals in the Center from Health Equity to expand the reach of my work into changes in policy to improve care for patients.
