Health Equity/Research Interest
Dr. Joseph Shin is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Co-Medical Director of the Weill Cornell Center for Human Rights. He oversees clinical operations for medical forensic evaluations for asylees and survivors of torture and complex trauma. He also conducts research studying the healthcare experiences of sex trafficking victims examining barriers to victim identification and effective linkage to services. Additionally he assists with medical-legal advocacy in the correctional and immigration detention systems identifying abuses inadequate healthcare and health disparities.
Expertise/Goals
I hope to connect to other researchers and advocates interested in health disparities in vulnerable populations and victims of human rights abuses. I believe multi-disciplinary collaborations bridging public health medicine human rights law criminal justice policy and social sciences can produce innovative research and insights into complex problems.
