Health Equity/Research Interest
The social determinants of health play a large role in a person’s well being and community organizations such as Cornell Cooperative Extension can impact a person’s health through education and advocacy. A person in poverty is likely to live a shorter life than someone of a different class. I feel it is my civic duty to help the public realize this issue and to help people in poverty to speak their truth.
Expertise/Goals
I have worked in the nonprofit world in various roles that include addiction, health, and poverty. I have also been the champion for a previous agency around Cultural Competency and Health Literacy in order to educate staff on the importance of understanding our own bias and how we all have a different lens in which we see the world. I hope to have more opportunities through this membership to advocate for more health equity and to help educate the community more about these issues.
