Health Equity/Research Interest
My interest in Health Equity started while working as a Hospital Medicine at Lower Manhattan Hospital and witnessing the broad range of healthcare disparities of patients who were in my care. There was a growing interest in our hospital from different disciplinary groups on ways to address health inequities and create an opportunity for education and activism. Our call to action was to create a health equity taskforce for our campus, a collective of MDs, PAs, NPs, chaplains and social workers.
Expertise/Goals
Through the creation of the health equity taskforce, our group is looking for ways to learn and collaborate with other members and organizers who are working to address social determinants of health. We hope to keep members engaged through educational opportunities, local and state level organizing and round table discussions on sectors of health including housing, immigration, homelessness, incarceration and addiction. Outside of work, I am also a health educator for Womanly Magazine, an online and print publication on preventative health for WOC and non-binary people through literary and visual art. Our print magazine is distributed for free at community resource centers in NYC, Philadelphia, and Baltimore. www.womanlymag.com
