Health Equity/Research Interest
My primary area of research is in patient use of health information technologies such as patient portals; although I’ve done work in health numeracy/literacy and patient decision making I have also found that some of the most effective ways to increase patient engagement are actually system-level changes rather than individual-level interventions. My secondary area of interest is in clinical decision making supported by health information technologies such as clinical decision support. I am currently doing work exploiting default options in the EHR to facilitate optimal decision-making without interrupting workflow. I have applied for grants to combine these two interests by redesigning EHR interfaces to promote more equitable treatment of patient populations by clinicians.
Expertise/Goals
I’d like to network with others interested in health equity and potentially develop new collaborations. I’d also like to contribute to educational and policy efforts to promote health equity in medical education.
