Health Equity/Research Interest

My academic interests are focused on metrics of success with a special interest in physician-scientists including their motivation training mentoring personality and learning styles. Additional research projects delve into the areas of mentoring how adults learn adult and program development blended learning social media in learning and organizational culture. I also delve into barriers of success and the potential disproportionate consequences toward women and underrepresented minorities. I use qualitative research as my research medium including interviews focus groups archival research and often supplement my research with more quantitative research methodologies such as surveys.

Expertise/Goals

I have a doctorate in Adult Learning and Leadership and have done extensive mixed-method research in the areas of adult learning and success especially as they pertain to physician-scientists. My research studies are based on the work of leading adult learning theorists including Kolb Brookfield Freire Deci & Ryan and Mezirow. For nearly 22 years I served as administrative director of the Weill Cornell/Rockefeller/Sloan Kettering Tri-Institutional MD-PhD Program. I provided leadership in strategic planning operations program and student development. I oversaw the process through the entire continuum of a student from recruitment up to graduation and including alumni affairs. I also ran the Gateways to the Laboratory Program which emphasizes the MD-PhD pipeline for students from underrepresented minority disadvantaged backgrounds or those with a disability. For this STEM summer program I designed and implemented a blended learning curriculum with a virtual mentoring community distinguished as the first of its kind. I’ve worked on these issues on the regional and national level where I served as a Steering Committee member of the AAMC/GREAT/MD-PhD Section and was an active member of the AAMC/MD-PhD Communication Committee (outreach). My goal is to collaborate with others and use my educational background and qualitative research acumen to develop and conduct studies that are of educational interest to the institution and mission driven to the CCHEq. I look forward to networking with others and recognizing the strengths of individual investigators that when combined could lead to a robust study.
