Health Equity/Research Interest

I have always been drawn to work in medically underserved populations, both in local and global health spheres. Time and time again, our most vulnerable communities are continually disadvantaged by healthcare systems.

Health crises such as chronic disease, nutritional deficiencies, and pandemics disproportionately affect minority communities, many of which are already underserved by their local health bodies. As a person of color connected to communities that have been dramatically affected, I have witnessed how a delayed, inappropriate response, lack of preventative measures and misinformation, create disastrous effects in realms that extend beyond physical health and into the mental psyche.

My work revolves around quantifying and addressing the structural and external factors that contribute to burgeoning healthcare disparities with the goal that there will no longer be a need for the phrase “underserved in medicine.”

Expertise/Goals

I have worked closely with several members from the Cornell Center for Health Equity in initiatives to increase the diversity of Weill Cornell Medicine curriculum, students and staff. In continuing to work with the Cornell Center of Health Equity, I hope to gain additional exposure and education in health equity research to create more strides in this field.
