Health Equity/Research Interest

My experiences as a physician caring for patients from diverse racial, geographic, and socioeconomic backgrounds has made me acutely aware of how these factors contribute to disparate health outcomes. I am interested in the ways that physicians can use their experiences with individual patients to promote systemic changes that will lead to greater equity in health outcomes. By assessing the needs of a population via community alliances and qualitative methods, changes can be made at an institutional level to improve access to care, as well as at local and national levels via policy changes and improved resource allocation.

Expertise/Goals

I have clinical experience in general and vascular surgery, and have worked in a variety of clinical settings and hospital systems throughout my training. During my general surgery residency, I completed a master’s degree in public health with a thesis in improving access to vascular surgical services at an under-resourced county hospital. I am co-founder of an educational podcast for vascular surgeons in training and am interested in community building, education, mentorship, and peer support. I am interested in multidisciplinary collaboration with other physicians who have similar interests and different backgrounds, as well as with specialists in other fields such as public policy and community advocacy.
